"... It is no surprise that NBA players make a ton of money. What may surprise you is that a staggering 60% of NBA players go broke after they stop playing professional basketball.

The average number of years a person plays in the NBA is 4.8 years. The average salary an NBA player makes is $5.15 million a year. That means that the average NBA player makes a career salary of $24.7 million. ..."

"... Here is a chart of the minimum salaries for NBA Players according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement of 2011. Even if a person plays for 4.8 years at the league minimum he will make around $4 million. ......"

"... Magic Johnson made it to our number two spot because of his wise investments. Today, most of Johnson’s net worth is tied up in Magic Johnson Enterprises (MJE). MJE houses multiple businesses in a variety of industries such as real estate, restaurants, and media. MJE is valued at $1 billion giving Johnson a net worth of $500 million. ......"

"... Technically, the majority of Michael Jordan’s wealth did not come from investing money. However, his negotiations with Nike that gave him royalties of the Jordan Brand was a great move. He makes over $60 million a year from that deal alone. With the highest net worth of any professional basketball player in history, Jordan deserves to be on this list. ......"

"... James is the only active player on our list. What makes him so brilliant is the way he approaches deals. He is a brilliant negotiator. Not only does he get creative control over ad campaigns in which he appears but he also attempts to get stake in the companies with whom he does business. His net worth could grow over a billion dollars eventually. ......" Read more ...

This Weekend eBA Basketball Magazine:
The evolution of Tony Parker and Marc Gasol
by George Eddy from FIBA

This Weekend eBA Basketball Magazine
The evolution of Parker from a rail thin but lightning quick teenager into a mature and relentless leader as he passed the age of 30 is simply amazing.

After years of learning important life lessons from Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich, Parker now transmits his savoir faire to his young teammates playing the role of the wise mentor who keeps everybody on the same page.

I have crossed paths with Tony a lot since 1999 when we used to play HORSE and pick-up games with him and his brothers in a Paris gym. ...

Remember, Marc first shined on the international stage when he played an unexpectedly important role in the Final of the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan after Pau was injured in the Semi-Final. In Slovenia, Marc came within one shot of the Final and was named the best center of the competition standing next to...Parker on the podium. In this Picture from melty presented by eBA Stats Basketball Statistics Analysis

This could be seen on Tony's face just after the win over Spain as he shared his immeasurable joy and...relief with his team. ...

Basketball News: FIBA Plans Club World Championship

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has plans to create a world club championship, the Japan Basketball Association (JBA) said on Wednesday.

The JBA said after a board meeting that the tournament would pit the champions of the five member continents against the winner of the NBA title to determine the best team in the world.

According to the JBA, the tournament would include 16 teams: the top four clubs each from Europe and the Americas, and the top two teams from Africa, Asia and Oceania, respectively.

The JBA said that for the event to become a reality, FIBA officials would still have to iron out details of the tournament such as coordinating the scheduling with the NBA.

Forum's Digest: Statistics never tell the WHOLE story

"... If a basketball game were decided as if it were a trial - in court - then statistics would be the evidence that each side would use to make its case. Points scored, of course, is the single most important piece of evidence, but other stats, as assists, rebounds, and turnovers, usually offer convincing proof as to which team outplayed the other - and won the game. ..."

One-on-one: with Joan Plaza - Real Madrid Head Coach

"I set my sights on achieving something "extraordinary" this season as Head Coach of the Real Madrid, namely winning the Euroleague." Plaza - 43-year-old - says.

"I know people want us to reach the Final Four this year because it will take place in Madrid, and Real have been crowned European champions eight times in their illustrious history, but not since 1995"

"We haven't been in one for 11 years, but we want to do our best and live that experience. It would be amazing to be in it in our home town. I don't know what crazy things I would be capable of doing if we won."

"We have a greater desire to win than sides like Panathinaikos and CSKA Moscow. We don't have their budget, but our drive is stronger because we haven't won it recently unlike them and our history says we are the side with the largest number of European titles.

Why wouldn't we be able to win it, then? It would be something extraordinary." "

"When I signed my first contract with the club, nobody thought I would be here for four years."

"My father told me to feel at home wherever I am given a chance. I am proud of staying longer at Real Madrid with people who have had faith in me. I wish I can pay them back with titles and good play. I am very grateful to them for their trust."

One-on-one: with Sergio Hernandez - Argentine Head Coach

"I believe qualifying for next year's Olympic Games has enhanced my reputation and changed my life, because without four of their six NBA stars, we managed to clinch one of the two Olympic spots available through the FIBA Americas Championship played in Las Vegas earlier this year." Hernandez says.

“It was a very important tournament for me because I took over the national team after an Olympic title. "

"There was not too much confidence in me. They thought stars like Manu Ginobili and Andres Nocioni, who play in the NBA and won the Olympic title, would not accept being trained by a domestic league coach."

Sergio Hernandez

"If I had trained any local team, I would be given respect, but things are very different in the national team, so the FIBA Americas Championship was useful to get respect and to know it's not just a matter of Ginobili and the star players."

"There is also Paolo Quinteros, Leonardo Gutierrez, Federico Kammerichs, Roman Gonzalez, Alejandro Porta and Prigioni who can all make things happen too."

"Our team left Argentina with several doubts. People did not believe Argentina could make it to Beijing and sometimes a lack of confidence makes a team stronger."

"Argentinian players have strong mind, competitive spirit and the experience of Luis Scola and Pablo Prigioni made the group take the responsibility to clinch an important goal."

"Now, resumes Hernandez, it will be more difficult to pick the 12 names to play the Olympics."

Basketball News: Esteban Batista leaves Celtics

Esteban Batista, the first Uruguayan to play in the NBA, leaves the Boston Celtics.

The 2.08m center, who signed for Atlanta Hawks in 2005 after an impressive showing for his country at the FIBA Americas Championship, spent a couple of seasons with the Atlantic Hawks and after that contract expired, he joined the Celtics this preseason but faced the prospect of playing very little.

Esteban Batista

Batista was not going to be cut, but he asked to be released by the club due to the few opportunities to play he would have this season.

Batista is expected to cross today the Atlantic and play in the Maccabi Tel Aviv team from Israel.

One-on-one: with Carlos Delfino - Argentine & Toronto Raptors, NBA

"I believe this season with the Toronto Raptors will make or break my career in the NBA. " Delfino (25 years old) says.

“As a shooting guard, I was a member of the Argentina side that finished runners-up at the FIBA Americas Championship this summer to qualify for the Olympics. "

"I left the Detroit Pistons this summer for the Raptors in a trade and this is my last season under contract and if I don't do things well, next year I won't clinch a good contract and will have to return to Europe. "

Carlos Delfino

"If I am outstanding, I'm sure I will sign an even better contract."

"I was among the biggest stars in Italy at Fortitudo Bologna but never received much playing time in Detroit. "

"The two parties tried a thousand things to make my situation in Detroit better, but unsuccessfully. "

"This is my last chance because I finally left Detroit and Toronto is a different club. "

"If I had stayed with the Pistons, I'm sure it would have been my last NBA season. "

"My performance this summer in Las Vegas has given me a confidence boost. "

"I'm very motivated and very happy," Carlos Delfino resumes. "The national team was very important for me and I have to build on that performance."
