Basketball Statistics Analysis Referred Concepts:
To Calculate 'Turnover Ratio' from the Box Score

"... How to calculate 'Turnover Ratio' if you have only the boxscore data ? ..."
To discover or decide which players on a basketball team are the best at keeping well the ball, you can use turnover ratio.
Turnover ratio is the percentage of player's possessions that result in the player perpetrating a turnover.
Discover the stats for the player that you wish to analyze. You can analyze a specific game, a specific season or a player's entire career.
The turnover ratio works for any sample size. Clearly, the larger the sample size, the more useful the statistic.
Detect the following stats for a player: turnovers, assists, field goals attempted and free throws attempted.
Make sure you get each stat from the same sample size. For example, if you are going to analyze a single game, each stat should be from the game in question.

Multiply free throws attempted by 0.44. Add to that number the total number of field goal attempts. As you know, the eBA System does not apply the 0.44 coefficient.
If you are taking the live stats of the game go here to learn the eBA System about the eBA 'Up-to-the-Line' method.
Take the number from the previous pace and add the number of turnovers and the number of assists. The resulting number is known as the total number of possessions.
For the more comprehensive eBA formula of 'Possessions' go to Basketball Possessions: About the Concept.
Multiply the number of turnovers by 100. Then take the resulting number, and divide it by the total number of possession. This final number is the turnover ratio. Round the number to the nearest tenth of a percentage point.
Note the similarities or differences of the player's turnover ratio to similar players to discover how each player makes sense in terms of keeping well the ball.
