Last 2010 eBA sketball Statistics Case Study Conclusion

Different Situations in a Basketball Turnover ... Case Study
"... A1 has control of the ball and then loses control or makes a bad pass. A5 attempts to save the ball from going out of bounds and....
• case a) A5 is not successful; or
• case b) A5 saves the ball by throwing it back into play and straight to B4; or
• case c) A5 saves the ball by throwing it back into play and B4’s aggressive action causes B4 to recover the ball; or
• case d) A5 gains control of the ball but as momentum carries A5 out of bounds, A5 throws a pass to A1 that is intercepted by B4’s aggressive action.
What is the statistical registration according to the eBA Basketball Statistics Analysis System in each one of the given situations, including the type of the registration ( type of turnover; forced, unforced, individual or collective turnover, good or bad foul; close, long, disputed or undisputed rebound; made, potential, missed or double assist; etc. ) ... ?"
Conclusion:
eBA System Statistics Fundamentals:
The intention of a turnover registration is to show statistically the times in which a team was given the ball and should have gotten some kind of shot but, before it could get any kind of shot, made some type of error that turned the ball over to the opponent.
A turnover can only be recorded against the offense; that is, the team with the ball possession. A team becomes the team with the ball when it has control ( involving the free throws situations ) or is entitled to the ball for either a throw-in or a free throw.
Philosophy: There will be some mistakes that will not result in the recording of a turnover because those mistakes did not entail the turning of the ball over to the opponent.
Mistakes that happen around the same time a team becomes entitled to the ball should not be considered turnovers. The team should have time to comprehend correctly it has the ball possession before being recorded with turnovers.
eBA Basketball Statistical Registration:
• In (a) charge A1 with an UNFORCED turnover and register A5´s action in the play-by-play report.
• In (b) charge A1 with an UNFORCED turnover and register A5´s action in the play-by-play report; but DO NOT charge a TO against A5 by no means ( typical error of the live stats ... ) !
• In (c) charge A1 with an UNFORCED turnover and a FORCED Steal in favour of B4. Also register A5´s action in the play-by-play report; but DO NOT charge a TO against A5 by no means !
• In (d) charge A5 with an UNFORCED turnover, but register the previous A1's action in the play-by-play report.
