"... How is it possible that in a game being played in an organized manner by hundreds of thousands of girls and women from the ages of 6 or 7 on up that one excellent college team cannot find even one other school that can come within single digits of it over two seasons? ..."

How is it that with hundreds of college scholarships available to women who play basketball, and national and regional television exposure as never before, and some serious money being thrown at college women's coaches, that there's not enough depth in the women's game for anyone to challenge the Connecticut Huskies? ..."

"... One look at that collection of universities, not a one of them named Louisiana Tech or Old Dominion, and you thought you could safely proclaim that big-time college athletic departments finally cared about women's hoops, and depth and balance would soon follow. ... "

But UConn's dominance at what should be the most competitive time in the history of women's sports raises a question: Just what, exactly, is going on at the 331 other NCAA Division I schools that field women's basketball teams? As we know, no one has come within less than 10 points of UConn since it last lost in the 2008 Final Four.

For comparative purposes, when the UCLA men's team won 88 in a row in the early 1970s, 16 of those victories were by single digits, including two one-point wins. ..."
