Rules Corner: Is it a Traveling case ?:

Great Basketball Pictures
" ...If a player, while holding the ball, touches the floor with a knee or any other part of the body other than hand or foot, it results in a Traveling violation and a personal Turnover ? ..."

Right. It results in a Travelling violation and a personal Turnover: forced or unforced ( without a defender interference ) depending upon the opponent action.

On the contrary, any action or pressure as result of the defender work, which causes the turnover, make it a Forced one.

The best way to see the differences, classification and discussions about Forced and Unforced Turnovers - and Steals - is going to the The Global Basketball Encyclopedia.
To study how the eBA System rules at each case, go to The eBA System - The Project.

This topic is summarized at Basketball Stats Discussions - Forced & Unforced Turnovers - 06/09/2005.
